If it’s not in use – turn it off.

Appliances on standby – like phone chargers, computers, and TVs that are not in use – can account for up to 10% of your household electricity use. Anything that has a light on all the time is costing you money. Look around at night to help identify the culprits. Turn appliances off at the switch or use smart power boards which turn off multiple devices at once instead.

Get your temperature just right.

The optimal household temperature is between 18 – 20°C in winter and 24 – 27⁰C in summer. Every degree above or below this range, depending on the season, can add an extra 10% to your heating or cooling bill.

Timing matters.

The time of day when you use your appliances can also make a big difference. Check your power bill, or ask your electricity provider, to find the time of the day when your electricity is cheapest. Think about operating appliances like the washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher during those less expensive times.
